about
This is my attempt at an homage to my greatest musical influence, The Grateful Dead. This specific recording of Morning Dew was the very first time in my life when I 'got it' - 'it' meaning the the importance, weight, and value of their music.
I remember the moment viscerally. I had been listening to the Dead for the past few months off and on based on recommendations from friends, but it just wasn't sticking. Then one day, I'm driving down a rural road in New Jersey, smoking a joint (coincidence?!), and this song came on. It was as if my entire musical life flashed before my eyes. The song seemed to go on for hours, yet it ended too soon. I immediately knew what all the fuss was about, but didn't quite know why I knew.
Years later, Morning Dew still has a special place in my heart. The only Grateful Dead remix I'm aware of is from Animal Collective (What Would I want? Sky), and that version seems to be more opportunistic (woah cool sample!) than it is an actual tribute to the Dead. So, I felt like the world could do with another one. :)
Here's my stab at interpreting their music for the modern age. Hopefully I'll find time to make more soon.

All credit goes to the Grateful Dead. For this remix, I used my favorite live recording of Morning Dew, from the original issue of Europe '72.
